Sununu is wrong supporting war in Iraq

The GOP seems to have forgotten that there have been no bigger supporters of the war in Iraq and President Bush than Sen. John Sununu.

To the Editors,

I was appalled by the recent article "GOP hits Shaheen record on Iraq." The GOP seems to have forgotten that there have been no bigger supporters of the war in Iraq and President Bush than Sen. John Sununu.

Time after time Sununu has given the President a blank check to continue his failed policies. The U.S. military should be focused on trying to defeat al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, but instead we now find the conditions in that country continuing to deteriorate as the terrorist organizations regroup.

John Sununu's support has helped make Iraq a breeding ground for terrorist. Proof comes from a recent purported audio recording by Osama bin Laden stating that "Iraq is the perfect base to set up the jihad." One of the worst offenses by Senator Sununu came recently when he voted against a Senate bill to ban torture, including waterboarding.

We need someone in Washington who will work to make America safer, not someone who just continues to make bad decision after bad decision. The war in Iraq costs about $12 billion each month or about $400 million a day. One day of Iraq war spending could help our schools in New Hampshire as well as help restore our national economy.
