George Bush & John Sununu: A Brief History
John Sununu and George W. Bush are an inseparable duo.George W. Bush went out of his way to help get Sununu elected in 2002. President Bush held a quarter million dollar fundraiser for Sununu where Bush told New Hampshire Republicans that they needed to send Sununu to the Senate because, according to the Concord Monitor, he needed "Sununu to be his foot soldier in the Senate on the issues of Iraq and taxes, in particular, and to support his judicial appointees." Bush said, "It's in my interest, it's in New Hampshire's interest and it's in the country's interest that John Sununu be elected."
Sununu was quick to pledge loyalty to President Bush on every issue imaginable. While on stage with Bush at a Republican Fundraiser, Sununu said, "on the issues that matter to New Hampshire and on the issues that matter to our country, on economic security and national security and homeland defense, I will be proud to stand with this president." After his 2002 election, Sununu said he was "very pleased and honored" to campaign with Bush.
When John Sununu won election he immediately began to fulfill the promises he'd made to President Bush by rubber stamping the Bush administration's legislation in the Senate. In his first year in the Senate, according to Congressional Quarterly, John E. Sununu was loyal to Bush 95% of the time. And since coming to the Senate in 2002, Sununu has supported Bush an average of 90% of the time.
Sununu has loudly and proudly backed President Bush at every opportunity. In 2003, Sununu praised Bush's "incredible leadership" on foreign policy, which he described as "focused and stalwart." In November 2003, Sununu was asked if he had "left the president." Sununu said, "There are far more issues the president and I agree on than disagree." In 2004, Sununu served as New Hampshire co-chair of the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign and, after Bush's 2005 State of the Union address, Sununu said, "I think his vision is a powerful one."
John E. Sununu is clearly more worried about his loyalty to President Bush than New Hampshire values. It's time to... STOP SUNUNU
