Does Sununu Support George Bush's "50 Year Plan" for Iraq?

CONCORD - President Bush believes U.S. troops should have a long term presence in Iraq similar to our presence in South Korea where thousands of troops have been based for the last 50 years. [ USA Today, 5/30/07] Given the evidence that the people of New Hampshire want a change of course in Iraq and don't want our troops policing an Iraqi civil war, will John E. Sununu continue to stand by an escalation that keeps our brave soldiers in harm's way for the next 50 years?

"Granite Staters deserve to know if John Sununu agrees with President Bush's new Iraq policy to maintain our military presence indefinitely," said New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Raymond Buckley. "Originally, the administration claimed that the Iraq war would be short and that Iraqis would welcome us with open arms. Over four years later, President Bush is singing a different tune."

A recent CBS News/New York Times poll showed that 72% of adults now disapprove of the presidents handling of the war. Buckley remarked, "How long will Republicans like John Sununu continue to blindly follow the President's misguided strategy on Iraq? And will they continue to put the interests of their party above those of the people of New Hampshire who want a new direction? John Sununu must draw the line by clearly outlining whether he supports President Bush's strategy to keep our troops in Iraq for the next 50 years. The people of New Hampshire have been extremely clear in their views and they deserve representatives that will honor the will of the people."
