NH Democrats Call on Sununu to Stop Running From His Constituents and Stop Unconditionally Supporting Bush on Iraq
CONCORD - John E. Sununu has a choice to make. George Bush vetoed the Iraq funding bill today, denying vital resources to troops in the field and rejecting a real plan to end the war. Sununu has been a staunch supporter of Bush’s Iraq policy, voting four times in the past two months to leave our troops in Iraq indefinitely to police a growing civil war. The following is a statement from New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley.
“It’s long past time that John E. Sununu ended his blind support for George Bush’s failed Iraq policy. George Bush could have ended the war in Iraq today but he chose instead to leave our troops in Iraq indefinitely to police a growing civil war. Now that he’s made his choice, Sununu has yet another opportunity to listen to the people of New Hampshire and override George Bush’s veto. I encourage him to do so.
“For four years, John E. Sununu and the Republican Congress gave George Bush a blank check on Iraq. But, here in New Hampshire and across the country, the 2006 elections brought change and the new Democratic Congress has shown that it is committed to changing course in Iraq. Sununu can either keep standing with George Bush or he can join with Democrats to deliver the new Iraq policy that Granite State families are demanding. New Hampshire wants a new direction in Iraq, it’s about time John E. Sununu listened to his constituents.”
